Good news for public workers: the dates for January tediye payments have been announced. The much-anticipated payment dates for 2020 tediye (bonus) for public sector workers are now clear. Nearly half a million employees serving as public sector workers will receive their 13-day tediye payments — the first installment for 2020 — tomorrow. Tediye payments, paid in four equal installments each year, will see the first installment for 2020 transferred to accounts on 31.01.2020.
The decision has been made to credit the first installment of the 52-day tediye owed for 2020 to accounts tomorrow, dated 31.01.2020. According to the Presidential decision, the first installment of tediye payments will be on 31 January 2020 and the second installment will be paid on 22 May 2020. Following the publication of Presidential Decree no. 2061 signed by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the provisions set out in Article 2 specify the following arrangements.
In addition, for miners who work exclusively underground at mining operations, the supplementary tediye payment provided under Article 2 of the same law for 2020 will be paid in full on 23.12.2020, as decided.
How Many Installments Are Tediye Payments for Public Workers Made In?
How many instalments are tediye payments for public workers made in? Public sector employees and those who transferred from subcontractor status to permanent staff receive a total annual tediye equal to 52 days of pay. Of this annual total, 26 days’ worth is paid in the first half of the year and the remaining 26 days are paid in the second half. Each half of the year therefore corresponds to 26 days of tediye, and these are distributed to workers as 13-day payments. In this way, tediye is paid in four equal installments per year, with two installments (totaling 26 days) paid during the first half of the year.
Tediye payments to public workers are subject to social security (SGK) and income tax deductions. A public worker earning the minimum wage in 2020 will receive a total of 52 days’ worth of tediye during that year. Accordingly, a public worker entitled to 52 days of tediye in 2020 will receive a net bonus payment totaling 3,646 TL for the year. The first installment, paid in four installments, amounts to 911.73 TL.
Tediye payments for public workers are calculated based on gross salary. Deductions for SGK contributions and income tax are applied to the gross amount of the tediye. Specifically, contributions are deducted from the gross pay for 13 days, income tax is withheld, and the remaining net amount is then transferred to the public worker’s account.
